A Journey through Shropshire
|
At this point in the journey, we look eastwards and a little off our route.

Wild Clematis has many names associated with its appearance and its many uses. It has been called Traveller's Joy,
because walkers would stuff
their shoes with the fluffy seed heads, Old Man's beard or Father Christmas,
because of its beardy fluff,
and Smokewood because people used to cut and smoke the stems.

|
Where would you find Traveller's Joy in Shropshire?
It prefers lime-rich soils like those found on Wenlock
Edge.
