What's a ring ditch?

A ring ditch is the remains of a burial mound, or barrow, that has been ploughed over.  You can normally only see them from the air, as patterns in crops.

This ring ditch would have been about one metre deep and made up of a continous circle.  A pile of earth or stones would have covered the burial in the centre of the pit, although other burials could have been added later.
