Haughmond Castle

This is Haughmond Castle in the 1920's. The Castle was built for John Corbett, a local M.P. It is thought to have been built and designed around 1774 by a man called Robert Mylne.
Historians believe that John Corbett used the castle as a hunting lodge and that he flew a flag from its roof to tell everyone who saw it, that there would be a hunt the next day.
Unfortunately, the castle suffered vandalism during the 1930's and collapsed, so it is not visible to visitors to Haughmond today. The castle actually stood in the grounds of the Sundorne Estate.
