Severn Stories
|
When the River Severn floods the water spreads out over the flood plain dropping
silt. This has created fertile alluvial soils in the Shropshire valleys, which are
ideal for farming.
Flooded fields like those shown here are also perfect places
for wading birds, such as curlews, to find worms to eat.

The floods are not welcomed by everybody and the Severn-Vyrnwy Land
Management Initiative is just one scheme run by the Countryside Agency to support rural
communities, whilst helping the wildlife in the floodplain area.
