Severn Stories
|
As the River Severn travels towards the sea it eats its way through the landscape. This is obvious in times of flood when huge boulders, trees, cars and roads can be washed away. Even when the river is quiet it is still eroding the river channel.

The formation of river cliffs.
Fast flowing water hits the outside of a bend of the river and cuts into the bank forming river cliffs. Here, birds like sand martins can dig their burrows to lay
eggs.

How are sandy beaches formed?
Water flowing down the river, on the inside of a bend, slows down and drops the
sand and silt it is carrying, forming sandy beaches like here near the Breiddens.
