Aerial photograph of Weir Meadow

Date: 2003

Description: An aerial photograph was taken in 1976 to accompany small-scale excavations at Weir Meadow, close to the Roman villa site of Whitley Grange to the west of Shrewsbury. Ploughing had disturbed a spread of worked sandstone blocks, cobles, bricks and tile fragments that were thought to be part of a wall and yard surface. Several archaeological trenches were cut and these found evidence for a possible building yard dating to the Roman (A.D. 43 - A.D. 450) period. (Image kindly supplied by Dr Roger White).
