Description: The silhouette of Moreton Corbet Castle. Work on the house began in 1606 during the reign of King James I. This was a time in which Puritans were persecuted for their beliefs. Sir Vincent Corbet took pity on his puritan neighbour, Paul Holmyard, and sheltered him within the castle. However, Holmyard's ideals became fanatical and Sir Vincent Corbet felt he could no longer offer his protection. Holmyard left the castle and survived for some time in the local woods, before returning to Moreton Corbet Castle to curse the family within. The curse was fulfilled and the house never finished. On a moonlit night the figure of Paul Holmyard stalks the empty walls making sure no building work continues. (Photograph by Dr Paul Stamper).
