This house was built around 1736 for the headmaster of Shrewsbury School, Dr Robert Phillips. The house is, perhaps, one of the best to be built in Shrewsbury at this time and is like a miniature country house. (Photograph by Dr Paul Stamper).

This is the house where Richard Baxter lived whilst he was assistant Minister at St Leonard's church, between 1640 and 1641. He went on to become a controversial puritan preacher who was eventually tried for sedition by Bloody Judge Jeffries.

The 53rd Regiment of Foot was raised in 1751. They saw action during the Indian Mutiny around 1857 and 1859. In 1881, they were renamed as the 1st Battallion of the Shropshire Kings Light Infantry Regiment.
