This poster is an advert for "Penny Readings" in Bridgnorth's Assembly Room on Tuesday 18th December. The "Penny Readings" are so called because it cost people just one penny to enter the Assembly Rooms. However, front seats cost three pence.

This 19th century photograph shows The String of Horses, Frankwell when it was a working inn. Prior to this the inn had been known as The Royal Oak and the Cross Keys. It became The String of Horses in 1828 (Photograph by kind permission of Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings, Bromsgrove).

This is a birds eye view of Clun in the south-west of Shropshire. To the west of the view you can see St George's church, which dates from the Norman period (1066-1154), whilst to the east perched on top of a ridge is Clun Castle, one of the important Marches castles.

The church in this picture is not identified by the author, although it is identified as being in Shropshire. It may be an amalgamation of different churches, or perhaps just an artists impression of a church, as it doesn't look like any of Shropshire's actual churches!

The Battle of Shrewsbury took place in 1403, just north of Shrewsbury at a place that is now known as Battlefield. The church at the north of the map is Battlefield church. It was built to remember those who died during the battle.

This drawing from the 19th century shows how stonework from the ruins of Roman Wroxeter was frequently reused.
